March is National Women’s History Month!
It was in the start of March of 2012, just one year ago,
when a controversial right-wing radio host practically launched the new war on
women. He criticized an unknown college student Sandra Fluke for speaking out
on birth control and the rights of women. From there, it seemed like highly
distinguished legislators at every corner began to show their true views on the
woman’s right to control her body. At many political hearings, on the State and
Federal level, women weren’t even included in the debate on their own subject!
I don’t know about you, but being a woman, it sure lit a
fire up under my a--!
Sometimes it’s easy to forget that women still make less
than men on average, even though we are advancing in education at a faster
rate. It’s easy to forget less than 100
years ago women could not vote and that African American men could vote before
any woman was allowed to.
Well, March is the month to remember, learn and ACT!
The National Women’s History Project has received its
“National” distinction since the 1980’s when President Reagan made the first
proclamation of Women’s History Week, which is the first week of March.
